CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - You've probably heard the saying time is brain. Doctors are referring to a stroke. When blood supply to part of the brain is disrupted, causing brain cells to die.

Every 40 seconds someone has a stroke.. Dr. Abdelazim Sirelkhatim, from Erlanger says some people are more at risk.

Doctors say that is due to certain risk factors. Like hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.

That's why Dr. Sirelkhatim says it's important to visit the doctor.

And in some cases that could be too late...

There are improvements when it come to treatment, but time is of the essence. Patients who present within less than three hours stand the best chance of recovering.

Dr. Sirelkhatim says prevention is always the best line of defense. You've heard it before, but diet and exercise are very important.
