Hamilton County firefighters start weekend battling garage fire

SALE CREEK, HAMILTON CO., TN (WRCB) - Some Hamilton County firefighters started the weekend battling a garage fire.

Just before 5:30 Friday morning the Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire on Quiet Trail Lane.  Upon arrival they found the garage and the vehicle inside in flames.  By that time the fire had started to spread to the house.

The homeowners told fire officials a family member was getting ready for work. He heard a popping noise coming from the garage. He went to investigate and saw fire pouring out of the garage. He immediately woke the six other family members to evacuate the house.

The family told officials they had a heating lamp in the garage for their six chickens. But, fire investigators will be on the scene to find the actual cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Damages to the house, garage and van will be around $100,000.

The family was insured and will be staying with family members.

The American Red Cross will be assisting the family with immediately clothing and personal items.
