Erlanger's new CEO Kevin Spiegel already on the job

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Erlanger will soon be under new leadership.

Two weeks ago the hospital's board of trustees selected Kevin Spiegel as CEO.

He officially takes the helm next month.

He hasn't officially started, but Kevin Spiegel says he is definitely on the job. We caught up with the new Chief Executive Officer of Erlanger Medical Center and asked him what is the first thing he plans to do.

Spiegel the former CEO of Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, was chosen after a controversial and at times contentious process by the board. One that even saw some state legislators get involved. That's why Spiegel says he made a trip to Nashville.

Spiegel has a lot to do, but he's being paid handsomely to take on the challenge. He was offered the biggest contract in the history of Chattanooga's largest hospital , $680,000680 with a $50,000 signing bonus to come here and reverse $12 million in losses over the last 19 months.

Top quality patient care is a top priority, but he realizes Erlanger is still a business.

That's why he is paying close attention to what is going on.

And while Spiegel says change is definitely coming, he told us he doesn't want to lose sight of some of the most important things.

Small things that mean a lot in an effort to make some big changes.
