Local NCAAP chapter wants resignation of city councilman

Posted: Updated:

CLEVELAND (WRCB) - A local NAACP chapter is pressuring a Cleveland city councilman to step down. A second meeting to gain community support is scheduled for Tuesday night.

Councilman Charles McKenzie resigned from his position as a Bradley County deputy in January after allegedly making racial slurs.

McKenzie has said he doesn't recall making the statements and that he has no plans to resign his seat on the city council.

The Bradley County NAACP is now leading an effort to petition McKenzie's resignation. The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. at the College Hill Recreation Center.
