MCMINN COUNTY, TN. (WRCB) -- The McMinn County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attack that sent a woman to the hospital Wednesday.

It happened at a home off Highway 30 in Athens around 4:00 p.m.

According to the police report, Candice Briggs told officers a male suspect attacked her after asking to use the phone.

She said the man put on a mask, hit her several times and cut her throat lightly with a knife.

Briggs told police the suspect said he didn't want to kill her, but rather "teach her a lesson."

The investigation is ongoing.
