Dalton fire claims couples' lives

Posted: Updated:

DALTON, GA (WRCB) -- Danny and Joy Hooper, who were severely burned in a Dalton house fire last week, have died according to an official at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, GA.

The couple were rescued by a neighbor's call to 911, but when firefighters arrived, smoke was billowing out of the home.

Fire crews had to fight flames throughout the bottom floor of the couple's home, before cutting a hole through the roof to reach them.

Firefighters worked quickly, performing CPR and ventilation on the couple.

Dalton Fire Chief Satterfield says the husband and wife were at the hospital within 30 minutes and quickly on a chopper to Augusta's burn center.
