Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - One of the leading trends of this decade is to embrace gardening and locally grown food.

The scenic city is welcoming a proponent of that.

He is Will Allen, an urban farming activist and MacArthur Genius Award winner.

Allen is a farmer and so much more.

He teaches people, from around the world, how the food system works, and how to keep it in its best possible condition.

He says food is more than eating healthy it's a way to live and participate in life.

Allen says bringing real food to inner cities is especially important.

Allen says the industry is important to us all and encourages children to look into jobs in the industry.

He spoke at Howard High and Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy Tuesday.

Wednesday, he'll be at Hixson High School and Ivy Academy.
