Rain tapering off...mild and windy

Posted: Updated:

(WRCB) - The rain we experience this morning is part of the same system that is bringing blizzard like conditions once again to the Midwest.

As the rain tapers off this morning, we still may see one or two sprinkles through the rest of the day.

A Wind Advisory is in effect until 1pm for the high elevations.  Expect wind speeds of 15-30 mph with higher gusts.  A High Wind Warning is in effect for McMinn and Monroe Counties as wind speeds could range between 20 and 40 mph during that time.  In the valleys we will be breezy with 15-20 mph winds from the south.

Temps today will be comfortable in the mid 50s.

Tonight will be a bit cooler with lows in the mid 30s.

I don't expect an eventful weather day Wednesday as highs climb into the low 50s, and only a SLIGHT chance for a sprinkle late in the day.

Much cooler air moves in late week.  Thursday through the weekend, we will see highs in the 40s and lows dropping into the 20s!  There is even a very slight chance we may see a flurry here and there as the cooler air moves in.

Some showers and storms may redevelop today as a cold front passes through the Tennessee Valley. But don't worry too much, they aren't expected to be widespread or become severe.

Several things are coming together to increase our chances for some severe weather later today.  A warm, humid air mass will interact with unseasonably cool air that will be pushing through today and tomorrow.

We will continue a warm, muggy pattern with highs reaching about 90 degrees.  The heat and humidity will combine with a trough of low pressure to produce one or two thunderstorms.
