DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -
Kevin Harvick was one of 12 drivers who sat out both Daytona 500 practice sessions on Friday.

Harvick goes into Sunday's season-opening race with two wins in two races at Speedweeks. His No. 29 Chevrolet sat covered in its garage stall most of the day.

Joining Harvick on the sidelines were Richard Childress Racing teammates Austin Dillon and Paul Menard. Dillon is scheduled to make his Daytona 500 debut. Other notables who sat out Friday were Clint Bowyer, Joey Logano, Juan Pablo Montoya and Mark Martin.

Three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart posted the fastest lap of the day in the second practice when he ran around Daytona International Speedway at 197.131 mph. He was followed on the speed chart by four-time champion Jeff Gordon and Danica Patrick.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -
Kurt Busch is hoping to make the most of his latest fresh start.

Busch has signed with Furniture Row Racing for 2013 and will start 11th in Sunday's Daytona 500. Busch has long mixed combustible behavior with checkered flag contention.

The NASCAR star is starting for his third team in three seasons following stops with Penske Racing and Phoenix Racing.

Busch's prodigious talent has never been doubted, with 24 career Cup wins and the 2004 championship etched on his resume.

He just hopes he can keep his cool when the pressure builds.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -
Former Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne will start from the pole in the Nationwide Series season opener.

Bayne turned the fast lap during qualifying at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, averaging 177.162 mph around the 2 1/2-mile superspeedway.

Bayne is driving the No. 6 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing, the car Ricky Stenhouse Jr. piloted to the last two championships in the second-tier series.

Sam Hornish Jr. will start second, followed by Parker Kligerman, Travis Pastrana and Austin Dillon.

Full-time Sprint Cup Series drivers Kyle Busch (seventh), Matt Kenseth (ninth), Tony Stewart (10th), Brad Keselowski (11th), Danica Patrick (12th), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (13th) and Kasey Kahne (19th) also are entered in Saturday's 300-mile race.

Kyle Larson, a rising star in NASCAR's ranks, will start 21st in his Nationwide debut.

Johnny Sauter wins NASCAR Trucks Series opener
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -
Johnny Sauter has won the NASCAR Truck Series season opener, his first victory at Daytona International Speedway.

Sauter led the final 17 laps and held off Kyle Busch before a last-lap wreck forced the 250-mile race to finish under caution Friday night.

Sauter says, "I can't believe I'm in Victory Lane in Daytona."

Busch, a Sprint Cup regular who drives a few races in the Trucks Series, wound up second for the third time in the series opener.

It was the 100th win in the series for Toyota and the manufacturer's seventh straight at NASCAR's most famous track.

Ron Hornaday Jr. was third, followed by Justin Lofton, Jeb Burton and Ty Dillon.

Defending series champion James Buescher was involved in the last-lap wreck and finished 13th, one spot behind highly touted rookie Darrell Wallace Jr.
