Walker Valley 51, Bradley Central 41
CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Lukas Korn led four Walker Valley players in double figures with 16 points to help the Mustangs out-muscle rival Bradley Central for a 51-41 win in the championship game of the District 5-AAA Tournament Tuesday night.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first half, combining for just 33 points in the first 16 minutes. Walker Valley mustered a 17-16 halftime lead, then used a quick surge in the third period to open a six-point lead.
Bradley Central pulled back within 30-27 entering the final quarter and still trailed by just three with under three minutes to play, but Korn scored four straight points to seal the win.
Korn added 13 rebounds for a double-double. Tucker Godfrey and Austin Harwood finished with 11 points apiece, and point guard Caio Hysinger chipped in ten points.
Bryce Copeland was the only Bradley Central player in double figures, leading all scorers with 21 points.
Boht teams advance to host region quarterfinal games this Saturday.
Howard 75, Brainerd 64
HIXSON, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Brandon Walters led all scorers with 25 points and keyed two late Howard runs with thunderous dunks to lead the Hustlin' Tigers to a 75-64 win over arch rival Brainerd in the championship game of the District 6-AA Tournament Tuesday night.
Both teams advance to host regional quarterfinal games this Saturday. Howard (23-5) will welcome Polk County, while Sequoyah will visit Brainerd (18-12). Central will visit Meigs County and Tyner will travel to 5-AA champ McMinn Central in the other two quarterfinal matchups.
Walters scored 16 of his points in the second half and rocked the rim with three huge fourth-quarter dunks, including two in Howard's 8-0 run to start the period. The surge helped the Hustlin' Tigers open a 10-point advantage with six minutes to play.
Marques Tipton did what he could to keep the Panthers close, scoring 10 of his 21 points in the final eight minutes. But Cudjoe Young's sky-walking tomahawk slam with two minutes to go sparked a 7-0 closing run for the Hustlin' Tigers to provide the game's final double-digit margin.
Young added 12 points off the bench for Howard. Shalique Cameron scored 17 and Xavier Harris chipped in 11.
Tyree Stubbs and Darrius Lee also finished in double figures with 10 points apiece for Brainerd.
