MACON, Ga. (WRCB) -- Gordon Lee put itself in position to sweep Georgia's state wrestling championships with a fast start Friday at the GHSA Class A traditional tournament.
The Trojans, who won their second straight duals championship in January, enter Saturday's final day of action with a 10.5-point lead over second place Holy Innocents in the team standings.
Gordon Lee had semifinalists in ten of the 14 weight classes, and advanced half of them to Saturday afternoon's championship finals.
Stihl Lance (106), Jonathan Ragsdale (113), Blake Clayton (120), Alex Spires (138) and Will Jacks (145) will all represent the Trojans in the finals.
Holy Innocents, who finished runner-up to Gordon Lee at the state duals, also has five finalists.
Gilmer County opened a huge lead in Class AAAA with five wrestlers advancing to the finals.
Heritage is sixth overall and sends two wrestlers into the finals Saturday: Isaiah Knight at 113 pounds and Michael Moore at 182.
Southeast Whitfield's Carlos Fraire will wrestle for the 220-pound title in Class AAAA. Ringgold's Sam Shepard is a finalist at 120 pounds in Class AAA, and Chattooga's J.J. Blankenship will wrestle for the 126-pound title in AA.
