Chattanooga woman faces 2nd trial in child abuse case

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - A woman accused of trying to smother her child will face a second trial.

Monica Hammers was arrested after a observer at Children's Hospital claimed to have seen her put a pillow over her son's face.

When Hammers' trial began in September, a judge ruled there was not enough evidence to try her for attempted murder.

A jury deadlocked on an attempted aggravated assault charge.

Hammers is scheduled to be back in court in April to face attempted aggravated child abuse charges.
