Tennessee Consumer Affairs takes on scams with help from sheriffs

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - A big player in the Tennessee Consumer Affairs office wants to battle scammers and is asking local sheriffs for help.

This new program is designed to share information between the Division of Consumer Affairs and Sheriff Departments as soon as a report is made.

The Director of Consumer Affairs for Tennessee visited several local sheriffs including Joe Guy in McMinn County.

This program forms a partnership between local sheriffs and the state to get information to citizens quicker and help protect them from possible scams.

The director says victims of storm damage are often easy targets of unlicensed contractors. Cordell plans to meet with all 95 sheriffs in Tennessee this year.
