OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Soddy-Daisy placed the most wrestlers in Saturday's championship semifinals, but Hixson claimed the overall points lead Friday after day one of the Region 4 Traditional Wrestling Tournament at Ooltewah High School.
The Trojans, who finished third in last week's Class AAA state duals and are the defending AAA traditional champs, advanced eleven grapplers to the final four of the winner's bracket, but amassed just 66 points in the process.
Hixson, who finished third in Class A/AA at last week's duals, advanced eight to the semifinals and racked up enough extra points in the consolation brackets to take the team points lead at 68.5.
East Ridge is third with 57 points after also advancing eight wrestlers to the semifinals. Signal Mountain and Central round out the top five.
Weigh-ins are set for 8 a.m. ET Saturday morning, and the region championship matches will begin at 2 p.m. However, state tournament berths will be clinched at 10 a.m. in the championship semifinals, then at 11:30 am in the consolation finals.
The top four finishers in each weight class advance to next week's traditional state tournament in Franklin.
