CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga forward Ashlen Dewart is the Southern Conference Women's Basketball Athlete of the Month for December.

Dewart averaged 18.8 points and 7.3 rebounds across four games last month, helping the Lady Mocs to a 3-1 mark in that span. The junior transfer from Appalachian State shot 64-percent from the field (32-for-50) and was 11-of-16 from the free throw line.

Dewart, who stepped into a starting role when center Faith Dupree went down with an injured knee in November, carried that momentum through a two-week holiday break with 23 points and 13 rebounds in Wednesday's 66-57 win at UAB.

Chattanooga stands at 9-2 overall (2-0 in SoCon play) as it enters a stretch of 18 straight conference games to close out the regular season. The first game in that stretch is Saturday afternoon at UNC Greensboro.
