KNOXVILLE (WRCB) -- New Tennessee head coach Butch Jones celebrated a new year with some good news when defensive tackle Daniel McCullers announced he plans to return for his senior season in Knoxville.
McCullers revealed his decision to bypass the NFL Draft on his Facebook page Tuesday night. GoVols247.com later confirmed with McCullers that the post was indeed accurate.
"I came to UT to give my all and help put Tennessee back on the map," McCullers wrote on Facebook. "The last year was not the best one but we have all the talent in the world to be GREAT. So with that being said I will be coming back for my senior year. Volnation be patient we gonna be ready."
The mammoth McCullers, who is listed at 6-foot-8 and 360 pounds, started seven games at nose tackle and played in all 12 games in 2012 after transferring from Georgia Military Academy.
He finished his first season in Knoxville with 39 tackles, including 5.5 for a loss and one sack.
McCullers is the third Tennessee junior to announce his intentions to return next year. Offensive linemen Ja'Wuan James and Zach Fulton said they will both be back in 2013.
Wide receiver Justin Hunter announced via his Twitter page last month that he plans to enter the draft. While quarterback Tyler Bray and wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson have yet to make official announcements, both are also expected to follow Hunter in turning pro.
