Eight local players earn first-team all-state honors in Georgia

Posted: Updated:

A banner year for high school football in North Georgia was reflected in the release of the annual Georgia Sports Writers Association All State rosters, which were released Thursday.

A trio of Ridgeland standouts led eight first-team selections from the Chattanooga area. Eight more players earned second-team honors.

Running back Darrell Bridges, defensive back Vonn Bell and offensive lineman Gannon Hampton all received first-team nods in Class AAAA after the Panthers' run to their first-ever state championship game.

Georgia's Gatorade Player of the Year Taylor Lamb led four Calhoun players on the first-team roster in Class AA. The standout quarterback was joined by receiver Josh Barnes, defensive back Donnell Anthony and lineman Katrova Dew.

Gordon Central return specialist Chandler Curtis was the area's lone first-team selection in Class AAA.

Dalton had three players earn second-team all-state honors. Defensive end Will Erwin, linebacker Eder Mora and lineman B.J. Rowland joined defensive lineman Isaiah Mack of rival Northwest Whitfield in the Class AAAA honors.

Ringgold quarterback Slade Dale and Gordon Central tight end D.J. Prather, who is also a University of Tennessee at Chattanooga commit, were second-team honorees in Class AAA.

Calhoun defensive lineman Hunter Padgett was the lone Class AA second-team selection, while Trion lineman Cody Brown was the only honoree in Class A.

Five more players -- Dalton's Kelvis Rhodes, Gordon Central's Tyshaun Clemmons, North Murray's Brady Swilling and Calhoun's Tydus Curtis and Alex Urbano -- were honorable mention in their respective classes.
