McCallie 60, Boyd-Buchanan 43
Jamaal Calvin and Jorden Williams scored 17 points apiece and McCallie used a big second half run to pull away from Boyd-Buchanan in a 60-43 opening round win in the opening round of the Times Free Press Best of Preps Tournament Thursday night at Chattanooga State.

The Blue Tornado, who are the tournament's defending champs, will play Ooltewah in Friday night's semifinals.

McCallie never trailed, but the Bucs never went away despite trailing 25-13 at the break.

Hall Allen, who finished with a game-high 18 points, hit two key 3-pointers early in the third quarter to fuel a quick spurt that helped Boyd-Buchanan pull within 33-26 midway through the period.

McCallie called a timeout, then answered with back-to-back 3-pointers from Calvin and Williams that sparked a 17-5 run that put the game away.

Eric Wolfe also finished in double figures for the Blue Tornado with 10 points.

Justin McMillan added 11 points in the loss for the Bucs, who will play North Jackson in Friday's consolation round.

Ooltewah (boys) 76, North Jackson 55
Ooltewah raced to a double-digit lead in the opening minutes and never looked back in a 76-55 rout of North Jackson in the opening round of the Times Free Press Best of Preps Tournament Thursday night.

Antonio Jackson finished with 18 points to lead the high-powered Owls, who advance to face McCallie in Friday night's semifinal round.

North Jackson struggled from the start, managing just two field goals in the opening eight minutes. Ooltewah led 23-4 after the first period.

Baylor and Notre Dame will meet in the other boys' semifinal Friday evening. The Red Raiders ran past the Chattanooga Patriots, 61-20, while the Irish topped Red Bank, 69-61.

Cleveland (girls) 56, Silverdale Academy 40
Sydnie Anderson scored 25 points to lead Cleveland to a 56-40 win over Silverdale Academy in the opening round of the Times Free Press Best of Preps Tournament Thursday afternoon.

Shawnia Anderson, Sydnie's sister, added 11 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

The Lady Raiders will play GPS in Friday semifinals. The Bruisers blasted Brainerd, 53-34.

Cleveland overwhelmed Silverdale in the opening minutes, forcing several turnovers to jump to a quick 9-3 lead. The Lady Raiders held the Seahawks to just six points in the first quarter, but managed just 12 of their own.

Cleveland pushed the advantage to double digits early in the second quarter, only to watch Mariah Massengill lead Silverdale back. She scored 14 of her team-high 22 points in the first half, and found Sloane Woodard for an open 3-pointer to pull the Seahawks back within 25-21 with two minutes to play.

However, Cleveland scored the final five points of the quarter for a 30-21 halftime lead and was never seriously threatened in the second half.

CCS and Baylor will meet in the other girls' semifinal. The Chargers beat CSAS 58-50 in overtime in the bracket's opening game before the Lady Red Raiders rallied late for a 44-42 win over East Hamilton.
