EAST RIDGE, HAMILTON CO., TN (WRCB) - East Ridge city leaders are angry over the city manager's most recent hire.
Residents packed the chambers as East Ridge commissioners debated the issue.
City Manager Tim Gobble recently promoted his Administrative Assistant to City Communications Manager.
City leaders disagree with the move, saying the 19 year old only has 4 months of experience and was hired because he's a friend of Gobble's, not because he's the most qualified.
Those opposed say veteran city employees make less than the $35,000 salary Gobble's hire was awarded.
Gobble says he conducted several interviews and believed his hire was best for the job.
Later in the meeting, Commissioners voted to cut Gobble's spending ability in half.
