Santa comes early for Salvation Army with bicycle donations

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Timing could not be better for two local companies and one local church to donate 316 bicycles to The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program.  Southern Champion Tray has donated 130 bicycles, the Dynamic Church of East Brainerd, after doing a 24 hour bike drive, collected 150 bikes, and The Insurity Group on Lee Highway donated 36 bicycles.

The Salvation Army welcomes all of these donations. "What a huge blessing these donations will be to 316 children of the Angel Tree program," says Major Teresa Newsome of The Salvation Army. "For many children this will be their first bike!"

The local Salvation Army registered 4,763 Angels this year, a 39% increase from three years ago.  At this time busy "elves" are matching up each Angel by proper number and family.

"We thank these companies and Dynamic Church for rising up to the challenge of providing bicycles for children in need," said Major Teresa Newsome, Associate Area Commander.  "If anyone else would like to rise to the challenge we still have time.  Gifts will begin being distributed until Monday, December 17th."

Monetary donations are still needed to meet this year's red kettle goal of $400,000.00.  Donations can be placed in any of the Red Kettles, mailed to 822 McCallie Avenue, given online at or by calling 1-800-Sal-Army.
