UPDATE: Disguised man robs Dalton bank

Posted: Updated:

DALTON, GA (WRCB) -- Regions Bank in Dalton was closed Monday afternoon.

The note on the door giving no explanation, or hint of the robbery that took place earlier in the day.

"It surprised me," says Victor Maddox, who showed up to make a deposit. "That's unreal."

Dalton Police were called to the branch on Thorton Avenue just after 1:30 p.m.

Surveillance pictures from inside show a man wearing a wig, hat, sunglasses, and University of Georgia sweat pants.

Police say the man approached the teller and demand money.

"The suspect did tell the bank teller that he was armed," says Bruce Frazier, spokesperson for Dalton Police Department. "I don't believe he actually brandished a weapon, but in the eyes of the law that's armed robbery either way."

The suspect got away with the cash, dropping some on his way out.

He was then spotted at the Downtown Motor Inn, across the street.

"We made entry into the room and unfortunately, we did not find any suspect, or anybody in the room," says Frazier.

Frazier says the tip could eventually pay off.

"It might have been a case of someone thinking that someone went into a room, and maybe they just ducked down a hallway and went somewhere else," he explains. "Those statements might pay off further down the line."

For now, police are hoping someone recognizes the baggy jacket, or the man wearing it in the photos.

Victor Maddox says he'll return when police make an arrest.

"I just hope they do," Maddox says.

If you recognize the man in the pictures, or have information on the robbery, call the Dalton Police Detective Jason Bishop at (706) 278-9085, ext. 214.
