CHATTANOOGA (WRCB/UTC) -- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior guard Kayla Christopher is the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week.
The four-year starter hit seven 3-pointers -- one shy of the UTC school record -- and poured in 27 points in a 70-67 loss to St. Mary's at the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic last week. That season-best outing came a day after Christopher scored eight points in a win over Portland State to become the 25th Lady Moc to score 1,000 points in her career.
Currently, Christopher ranks 21st on the UTC all-time scoring list with 1,027 points, and fourth on the school's career 3-pointers list with 178 shots made from behind the arc.
In addition to her success on the court, Christopher holds a 3.65 grade point average while pursuing a degree in Health and Exercise Science.
Men's cross country runner Nathan Wanuch is the only other Chattanooga athlete to earn the weekly honor during the 2012-13 academic year.
