Lt. Eric Stone and Senior Firefighter Daryl Horn
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WRCB) -- Two Chattanooga firefighters represented their department and the state of Tennessee quite well in the Firefighter Combat Challenge's World Challenge XXI in Myrtle Beach, SC over the weekend.
Lt. Eric Stone and Senior Firefighter Vernon Horn finessed 8th in the world in the tandem competition.
The Firefighter Combat Challenge, now an internationally televised event, is a demanding five-event physical challenge that firefighters from around the world compete in and try to complete in the fastest time.
This is truly a world competition, with firefighters competing from around the U.S. and Canada, and around the world, including Germany, France and Poland.
Lt. Stone and Senior Firefighter Horn started competing in 2010, finishing 29th. Then they finished 14th last year. After finishing in the top ten this year, Lt. Stone is optimistic about next year. "We're in striking distance now," says Stone.
