CHATTANOOGA (UTC) -- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head softball coach Frank Reed announced Wednesday that Jesslyn Stockard and Savannah Goldsmith, both of Heritage High School, have signed national letters of intent to join the Lady Mocs softball team in August 2013.
"Savannah and Jesslyn are both coming from a great Heritage softball program," Reed said. "We've been watching them for quite a few years. We were looking to fulfill corner positions and add bats to the lineup. Jesslyn is a first baseman and a hitter, and Savannah is a great hitting third baseman ad catcher who may play up the middle."
Stockard joins the Lady Mocs after a decorated career with the Heritage Generals. The first baseman was named the Region 7-AAAA Player of the Year in 2012. Along with the regional honor, Stockard was also recognized by the Chattanooga Times Free Press, named to the "Best of Preps" First Team in 2011. Stockard also reeled in the title of North Georgia Dream Team Player of the Year and was recognized as an All-Region infielder last season.
The early signee carries a 3.9 GPA and will graduate with honors in the spring. She has been named to the honor roll every semester since fall 2009 and is a member of the BETA Club and National Honor Society.
Stockard's fellow high school teammate, Goldsmith, will also join the Lady Mocs in fall 2013. The versatile star is a two-time "Best of Preps" honoree and three-time All-Region team member. Goldsmith has been named to the North Georgia Dream Team three times in her career, twice to the First Team and one to the Second Team, and was named an All-State Catcher during her junior year. The senior enters her final season with Heritage named to the All-Star Dugout Team.
Goldsmith has been named to the honor roll each of her four years at Heritage High School.
"We are excited about getting some local talent back in the school," Reed said. "They bring a lot of experience and they are used to playing a tough schedule. They have great work ethic that you can't teach, and they both have a great mental knack for the game. We are very fortunate to be bringing in two young ladies like that."
