CHATTANOOGA (UTC) -- Chattanooga senior Niko Brown has been named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week for all competition Nov. 7-13. The selection was made by the league office Wednesday.
Brown went 4-0 with one pin in winning the 197-pound title at the Wolfpack Open in Raleigh, N.C., on Sunday. The Kissimmee, Fla., native ran his record to 12-1 on the season with the impressive showing.
Brown got his day started with a pin of NC State's Josh Lackey in 1:48. He then took three straight decisions, knocking off Virginia Tech's Darren Hankins (7-4), West Virginia's A.J. Vizcarrondo (7-2) and Old Dominion's Kevin Beasley (6-4) to claim the title in his weight class.
The wrestler of the week award is the second of Brown's career. Coincidentally, he also took it the second week of last season (Nov. 23, 2011).
Brown is the second Moc wrestler to take the award in as many weeks, as teammate Nick Soto was the wrestler of the week on Nov. 7.
Chattanooga is back in action Friday when it hosts Cumberland at 5 p.m. and No. 2 Iowa at 7 p.m. at Maclellan Gym.
