CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. (WRCB) -- The numbers have been crunched and Georgia's final playoff brackets have been set.
The Georgia High School Association released Class A's official football matchups Wednesday, breaking the small-school class into public and private divisions for the first time after a state-wide vote earlier this year.
Each division used various criteria, including strength of schedule, in a power rankings list that was used to seed the teams. The top 16 teams in each set of power rankings qualified for the state playoffs, which will begin in both classes on November 23.
Region champions were automatically seeded in the top eight, which assured each a first-round home game.
Based on the numbers, Gordon Lee, Trion and Darlington all earned playoff spots Wednesday.
Gordon Lee (5-5) is the No. 14 seed in the Class A Public School bracket, earning the Trojans a trip to No. 3 Emmanuel County Institute. Trion (8-2) is the No. 11 seed in the public school field and travels to No. 6 Irwin County.
Darlington (7-3) is the lone area school in the private school field. The Tigers are the No. 8 seed and host No. 9 Prince Avenue Christian in the opening round.
The rest of Georgia's six classes will kick off the postseason this Friday.
