Girls Preparatory School 4, Harpeth Hall 0
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Ellie Haskins and Izzy Phillips each scored twice and Girls Preparatory School overwhelmed Harpeth Hall 4-0 in the Division II-AA state semifinals Friday night to clinch a spot in Saturday's state championship match.
The Bruisers (14-1-2) will play Father Ryan at 6:30 p.m. ET on their home field. The Irish ousted Baylor 1-0 in the other state semifinal.
The Honeybears hung with the Bruisers for the first 40 minutes, allowing only Haskins' first tally at the 22nd-minute mark for a 1-0 deficit at intermission.
The second half was a different story, though, as GPS' furied pace finally wore down Harpeth Hall's defense.
Haskins gave GPS a 2-0 lead early in the second frame off an assist from Josie Love Roebuch. Phillis then added two unassisted second-half goals to close the scoring.
Father Ryan 1, Baylor 0
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- There will not be a third straight state championship for Baylor girls' soccer.
Kalyn Pruett's header in the 73rd minute proved to be the game-winner as Father Ryan knocked off the two-time defending state champion Red Raiders 1-0 in the Division II-AA state semifinals Friday afternoon at GPS.
Sarah Bossung's lengthy run down the left side of the field set up the score. Bossung stepped through a Baylor defender's attempt to clear the ball, then fired a perfect cross that found Pruett's head just to the right of the net.
Baylor (11-4-3) had a few late chances in the closing minutes, but couldn't convert. The Red Raiders also had a scoring opportunity early in the second half when Nikki Johnston collected a loose corner kick and fired one off the keeper, but another Father Ryan player scrambled to make the save.
