RINGGOLD, GA (WRCB) -- Friends, family and church members mourn the death of 74-year-old James Henry Blevins, who was killed after being pinned under a tree.
"Real nice guy, very friendly," says neighbor Rick Rollins.
Rollins has lived across the street from Blevins for more than two years. He says he was one of the best neighbors anyone could have.
"Cleared our driveways out when it snowed real bad," Rollins explains.
However, on Monday he discovered his neighbor and friend suffered a fatal accident.
Rollins says the day began like any other.
Around 9:00 a.m. he heard Blevins crank up his chainsaw to begin work on trees in his yard that were knocked over by severe storms a couple years ago. It had become a hobby for Blevins.
Around noon Rollins says he noticed he didn't hear the chainsaw anymore. The garage was still open and his tractor was still out. Rollins called Blevins' wife, who said she'd been trying to get a hold of him all day.
As the sun began to set, Rollins went to check on Blevins.
"When I went over there to his tractor, he was under the tree," Rollins says. "He was sitting down with the tree on top of his back."
Rollins says the tree was at least three feet in diameter and he knew Blevins was already gone.
"He cut one of the bottom limbs off and it rolled over on him," says Rollins.
Rollins called 911, and emergency crews worked for hours to remove the tree.
It's an accident that took the life of a man loved by many. Friends and fellow church members say Blevins will be missed.
"What do you tell somebody when a good person dies," asks Rollins.
