Posted: Updated:

SODDY-DAISY, TN. (WRCB) -- Channel 3 now knows how a Soddy Daisy man died.

The Hamilton County Medical Examiner released preliminary results, showing 24-year-old Casey Burgiss died of gun shot wounds to the head.

The father of three was shot twice and left for dead in a cave on Montlake Mountain.

Burgiss had been missing since July 21.

His family says Burgiss ran with a rough crowd, known for doing drugs.

Sunday night the family held a vigil for Burgiss.

His mother, Karen Crawley, had this message for her son's friends: "For all of Casey's friends, who may be on that path, if you learn from him, learn from him and do your best to stop."

Nineteen-year-old Keith Stewart has been charge with Burgiss' murder.

Stewart admitted to police his role in planning to rob Burgiss.

Stewart is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing Tuesday.
