UPDATE 2: Officer-involved shooting in Whitfield County

WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA. (WRCB) - Authorities in Whitfield County are investigating an officer-involved shooting.

It happened Wednesday night, shortly after 8 o'clock off Mitchell Bridge Road near the Dawnville community.

Officers say a man went in to a home and physically attacked two female victims.

When deputies arrived, the suspect tried to flee the scene in a vehicle.

Officers fired shots, striking the man in the arm.

Residents tell Channel 3 they heard several shots, before deputies told them to stay inside their homes.

One witness says he originally thought the shots were fireworks.

The officer involved suffered minor injuries.

The suspect was taken to Hamilton Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
