Ringgold 5, North Oconee 0
RINGGOLD, Ga. (WRCB) --
Erika Bynum drove in three runs and Ringgold used a variety of sensational defensive plays to beat North Oconee 5-0 in the deciding game of a best-of-three series in the opening round of the Class AAA state softball playoffs.

The Lady Tigers went up 1-0 on Bynum's first-inning single, then clung to that lead across the next five frames.

Ringgold turned a pair of double plays behind ace Brittany Portwood to end North Oconee threats, while outfielder Taylor Chadwick and catcher Jessica Goldsmith also turned in diving catches to thwart Titans' rallies.

Devan Brown finally gave the Lady Tigers some breathing room with a two-run bloop single to center in the sixth. Bynum stepped up next and delivered a two-run home run to left-center to provide the game's final margin.

Ringgold advances to host Dawson County in a best-of-three series in next week's second round. Dawson County swept an opening-round doubleheader against Woodward Academy on Wednesday by scores of 9-1 and 5-3.

LFO 5, Oconee County 4
FORT OGLETHORPE, Ga. (WRCB) --
Cheyenne Burns hit a go-ahead grand slam and Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe's defense came up big in the final inning to outlast Oconee County 5-4 in the third and deciding game of their Class AAA opening round series.

Oconee County scored three runs off LFO starter Cori Elswick in the third to take an early lead, but Mary Anne Morgan got the Lady Warriors on the board with an RBI triple in the bottom half of the inning.

Oconee County added one more run to take a 4-1 lead into the sixth, but Burns crushed a grand slam to give LFO a one-run lead heading into the final inning.

Oconee County was able to load the bases with two outs in the seventh, but LFO got the final out on a grounder to preserve the win.

The Lady Warriors advance to next week's second round, where they'll face either Banks County or Blessed Trinity.
