Crime Stoppers: Mystic Market Robbery

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WRCB-TV) - Surveillance video shows the dramatic scene unfold on the morning of August 28th. As the shop owner unlocked the 4th Avenue Mystic Market, he was approached by a thug who did not let broad daylight or the increasing rush-hour traffic get in his way. "Well, obviously, anyone that's opening up a door and all of a sudden they got a gun in their face, they're gonna be shocked and upset," said Chattanooga Police Officer Daniel Jones.

The crook had wrapped his head and his weapon in what appear to be T-shirts. We get a closer look as he entered the store. "It may be a shotgun, it may be a rifle, we don't know. It also, possibly, has a pistol grip with a sling."

It was certainly a terrifying few minutes. "He did the right thing by going ahead and complying with what the individual wanted," said Officer Jones, "because, that kept him from getting hurt."

As the first morning customers pulled into the parking lot, the crook fled back around the corner of the building, stolen cash in hand. He looks to be a black male, about 5'6" and on the day of the robbery, he was wearing a red plaid shirt and dark colored pants. Jones added, "We can't see the weapon, nor can we se his face, but he's definitely walking in such a manner that someone would notice him and even just the way he's standing. Someone would be able to tell, 'I recognize that particular stance or that particular walk.'"

If you know this person or something about this crime, even if you are the person who can be seen in the video peeking around the corner, likely serving as a lookout, call the Crime Stoppers hotline. There is free money waiting for your good tip. "That's the great thing about Crime Stoppers," Officer Jones said. "Nobody will ever know that anybody told on anybody. All they have to do is call to an officer and that officer happens to be me."

There is up to a thousand dollars waiting. Call: 698-3333
