JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - The Washington County school system has fired the driver of a school bus that crashed last month, injuring 27 students.
According to the Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/PVltnr ), 54-year-old Brenda K. Gray of Jonesborough was dismissed after the prosecutor filed 39 charges against her in connection with the rollover wreck in Telford.
Director of Schools Ron Dykes told the newspaper the district's bus safety record is very good overall and it's rare that a driver is dismissed.
At a news conference Wednesday, District Attorney Tony Clark said Tennessee Highway Patrol investigators concluded the bus was traveling about 58 mph in a 30 mph zone when it ran off the road and overturned twice on Sept. 20.
