Firebombs thrown into sleeping elderly woman's home

HARRISON, TN. (WRCB) - Pam Ridge is on alert, after learning someone tried to set her neighbor's home on fire.

"It's very unfortunate that this happened to this poor woman," said Ridge. "We are really watching, I know I watch diligently here at my house."

Deputies were called to 7426 Igou Ferry Road Tuesday, when the 86-year-old homeowner discovered a molotov cocktail in her garage and a window shattered.

"It was thrown through a door going into the garage area," confirmed Janice Atkinson, spokesperson for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The victim's family members did not want to go on camera, but tell Channel 3 the homemade bomb consisted of a glass bottle, flaming rag and gasoline.

"It was just minor damage the first time, no injuries the first time," said Atkinson, "and then it happened again."

The second attempt melted the home's siding and shattered a second window, but the fire snuffed itself out.

The bottle used to make the bomb was left resting on the window seal.

The sheriff's department is working to pull fingerprints from it.

Surveillance cameras are ready, should the suspect return.

"We just want to get to the bottom of it for the safety of this resident, and anyone else who could possibly become a victim," said Atkinson.

Atkinson says detectives are not ready to release suspect information, but the investigation is ongoing.

Pam Ridge, who works with the local neighborhood watch, is confident an arrest will be made.

"They'll find out who is doing this," she said.

The 86-year-old victim was not injured, and is staying with family members, who tell Channel 3 they believe the act was random.

The sheriff's office asks anyone with information in the case, to give them a call at 423-209-8940.
