
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee Highway Patrol investigation has concluded the driver of a Washington County school bus that crashed injuring students was driving at twice the speed limit.
Brenda K. Gray of Jonesborough was jailed Wednesday on on eight counts of reckless aggravated assault, 31 counts of felony reckless endangerment, speeding, reckless driving and failure to exercise due care.
The Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/QHV8Mj ) reported a public defender will represent Gray, who is 54. She remains in jail after being arraigned Wednesday.
Prosecutor Tony Clark said Wednesday the investigation showed the bus was travelling about 58 mph on a curvy road when it crashed Sept. 20 in Telford. The bus then rolled twice. No mechanical problems were found when the bus was examined.
Director of Schools Ron Dykes called the charged heart-wrenching.
