Hixson's Fitzgerald named Titans' Coach of the Week

Posted: Updated:

HIXSON, Tenn. (WRCB) -- With each passing win, Hixson High's resurgence is getting more and more attention across the state.

First-year head coach Jason Fitzgerald was named the Tennessee Titans' High School Coach of the Week Monday after his Wildcats topped Tyner 28-19 in a key first-place showdown in District 6-AA.

The victory was Hixson's first over Tyner since 1991, and keeps the Wildcats in a first-place tie atop the standings with East Hamilton, whom they'll play this week.

"I have known Coach Fitzgerald for a while and we knew he was a great coach and person," said Hixson High Athletic Director Brian Bray. "He is great for our kids and a role model for the student-athletes throughout the school."

Fitzgerald took over the program in the spring and has the Wildcats off to a 4-2 (3-0 in 6-AA) start.

Titans' owner Bud Adams, Jr. will make a $1,000 contribution from the Titans Foundation to the Hixson High School football program in Fitzgerald's honor. Fitzgerald will be the team's guest at the Titans season finale versus the Jacksonville Jaguars on December 30th when the team honors all 2012 Coach of the Week winners and announces the winner of the 2012 Coach of the Year.
