A Rainy Start to the Week

Posted:

(WRCB) - We can expect rainy weather through the day today.

An area of low pressure that used to be a tropical storm in the eastern Pacific is making it's way through the Tennessee Valley today.

The main impact will be fairly persistent rain all day with the isolated rumble of thunder here and there.

There is officially a SLIGHT RISK of severe weather issued by the Storm Prediction Center.  The chance is slight, and the biggest threat is from gusty winds accompanying any storms that do develop.  Rainfall amounts widespread should range between one and two inches.

Tonight we will see the low moving to our north, and taking most of it's energy with it.  The rain will begin to taper off, but even in the wake of the low we could see some clouds and an isolated shower or two popping up Tuesday as well.  Wednesday through Saturday will be nice as the sunshine returns and highs remain in the upper 70s and low 80s.

Another front will bring some clouds and much cooler weather this weekend.  By Sunday, highs will be down to about 70 degrees.

Several things are coming together to increase our chances for some severe weather later today.  A warm, humid air mass will interact with unseasonably cool air that will be pushing through today and tomorrow.

We will continue a warm, muggy pattern with highs reaching about 90 degrees.  The heat and humidity will combine with a trough of low pressure to produce one or two thunderstorms.
