MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (AP) - An eastern Tennessee hospital spent three hours on lockdown before being cleared after a bomb scare caused by an unattended bag near the emergency room.
Morristown Police Department spokesman Brian Sulfridge says Lakeway Regional Hospital wasn't evacuated Saturday morning, but operations at the facility were curtailed until the department's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit determined the bag didn't contain explosives.
Instead, Sulfridge told the Morristown Citizen Tribune (bit.ly/R4S2zE) officers concluded the bag held soap, deodorant and other overnight essentials.
Police became alarmed when a bomb-sniffing dog alerted to the bag. Sulfridge says several of the household items can be used in explosives.
Police, firefighters and emergency medical service personnel used a robot's water cannon to open the bag.
Lakeway Regional resumed normal operations around noon.
