BRADLEY COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -- A man who was being sought in the August thefts of batteries from businesses and heavy duty construction equipment was arrested Tuesday at the home of a relative on Burke Ridge Drive.
Bradley County deputies and detectives attempting to place Scottie Lee Higgins into custody on an outstanding charge of theft over $1,000 met resistance from two relatives who were subsequently taken into custody.
On August 20th the Bradley County Sheriff's Office offered a reward to anyone helping them find Higgins. No credible tips were received and the search for Higgins has been ongoing for more than a month.
On Tuesday a deputy on patrol spotted the suspect outside his mother's residence. He called for assistance and other deputies and detectives responded.
After a brief scuffle involving other family members, Higgins was placed into custody.
Higgins' mother, Stormy Lee Merriman, 37, and a juvenile attempted to intervene and prevent the officers from their duty. As a result Ms. Merriman has two charges: assault on an officer and resisting arrest.
The 17 year old juvenile was placed in the custody of the juvenile detention center on related charges.
