Family rescued after van washed into flooded creek

Posted: Updated:

ETOWAH, TN (WRCB) -- A family is safe after their van was pushed off a bridge by rushing floodwaters.

It happened Wednesday morning on County Road 778 in Etowah.

When the Etowah Rescue Squad got there, they found a woman sitting on top of her van. A teenager had been able to swim to the creek bank.

Rescuers took a boat out to the woman and took her to safety.

The woman's husband also had to be rescued 200 feet downstream from the van. He had tried to rescue his wife and daughter but was unable to reach them.

Rescue Squad Chief Brandon Frost says heavy fog may had made it hard to see the water.
