SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. (WRCB) -- South Pittsburg overcame a sloppy start to pull away from arch rival Marion County for a 49-21 win over the visiting Warriors in the Channel 3 Friday Night Football Game of the Week.

The top-ranked Pirates (4-0, 2-0) rushed for 551 yards and had three running backs with more than 147 yards.

Demetric "Little Man" Johnson rushed for 147 on 10 carries with four touchdowns. Jajuan Lankford totaled 213 yards with two touchdowns and one 2-point conversion. Fullback Corbin Haled added 163 yards on 13 carries.

The win marked South Pittsburg's seventh straight over rival Marion County (3-2, 1-1), but it wasn't as easy as the score looked.

After all three South Pittsburg backs scored to build a 21-0 lead, Blake Zeman got the Warriors on the board with a long second-quarter touchdown run. Marion County recovered an onside kick to start the second half and turned it into Hamilton Shoemaker's touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-13.

From there, Johnson and company went back to work to put the game away.

"For whatever reason we didn't play sharp," said head coach Vic Grider. "Might be credit to them, they played really hard. We weren't at our best tonight but if you can figure out how to win by four touchdowns and not give your best game.

"Anytime you can beat these guys we're happy about it."

The win puts the Pirates in position to win the four-team District 6-A with a 2-0 district mark. South Pittsburg has only a game with Whitwell left on its schedule, while the Warriors still must play Lookout Valley.
