BRYANT, ALABAMA (WRCB)- A seventeen-year-old North Sand Mountain High School junior died Thursday morning in a one-car accident near Bryant.
Alabama Highway Patrol officials say Michael McQuade Lay was killed on Highway 73 when he lost control of his car, striking a concrete barrier, a utility pole, and then flipping several times before coming to rest.
The accident happened around 5:25 central time Thursday morning.
According to friends, Lay was employed by Flat Rock Growing Company as a greenhouse worker, and was on his way to work before going to school.
In a Facebook post, owner Tommy Wood wrote, "When he grew up, he wanted to be a game warden, but was starting to see the potential in greenhouses. He was loyal and faithful and hard-working and always had questions. He was family. I will miss him."
The junior class of North Sand Mountain High School is raising money to help the Lay family with funeral expenses.
Contributions may be sent to the attention of the class at North Sand Mountain High School, P.O. Box 129, Higdon, AL 35979.
