CLEVELAND, TN (WRCB) -- Businesses in Cleveland have been victimized by an ongoing series of thefts of their commercial air conditioning units.
Public information officer Evie West confirms that the Cleveland Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit is currently investigating at least four thefts that have occurred over the past three weeks.
A suspect or suspects have been stealing heat/air units from local commercial properties.
These suspects are removing the units intact, which leads investigators to believe the units are not being scrapped but instead are being reused or sold to unknowing customers.
To date, the estimated loss exceeds $50,000.
An eyewitness stated that a white male, mid 50's, driving a older, possibly '80s model gray Ford Pick-up, was seen fleeing the scene of one of these thefts.
A cash reward is being offered for any information on these stolen units or suspect(s) identity. Contact Detective Matt Jenkins at (423) 303-3134 with any information you may have.
