CLEVELAND, TN (WRCB) -- Head coach Glen Ryan said the one thing the Walker Valley football team lacked was emotion during a 16-game losing streak that stretched across the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
No one is doubting its emotion anymore after Friday's 33-22 win over Red Bank, which cemented the Mustangs' first 3-0 start in school history.
"My hat is off to these guys, they did everything we asked them to do and I'm so proud of them right now," Ryan said after the win, which was also the program's first-ever victory over Red Bank.
The Lions out gained the Mustangs by more than 150 yards, but it was defense and special teams that led Walker Valley to victory.
Two interceptions from Jerry Shaw and two botched punts by Red Bank, including one for a safety, provided the turning points in the contest.
Walker Valley's Gabe Cartwright erased an early fumble by rushing for one touchdown and scoring on a kickoff return in the fourth that put the game away.
