Last minute TD lifts Calhoun over Ridgeland

CALHOUN, Ga. (WRCB) -- From the first drive to the last, Friday night's season-opening showdown between Calhoun and Ridgeland was everything fans expected it to be.

Taylor Lamb threw a short touchdown pass to Sebastian Willer in the final ten seconds and the defending state champion Yellow Jackets beat the Panthers 42-35 in the Friday Night Football Game of the Week.

Ridgeland scored first with two beefy runs from Von Bell, including a 24-yard touchdown.

Calhoun answered on the ensuing drive. Lamb led the Jackets through the air and Alex Urbano capped it off with one of his three touchdowns.

By halftime it was 21-21.

Calhoun jumped ahead 35-27 in the closing minutes, but right on cue Ridgeland's Bell found the end zone for the second and final time. Darrell Bridges broke the plain on the two-point conversion try, tying the game at 35 with 55 seconds to play.

Calhoun was not happy with a tie. Lamb led the Jackets back down the field briskly, finally rolling out and hitting Willer with nine seconds left for the game-winning score.
