Marion's McCurry named Titans' Coach of the Week

Posted: Updated:

JASPER, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Mac McCurry's quick work at Marion County is already garnering state-wide attention.

The first-year Warriors coach was named the first Tennessee Titans High School Football Coach of the Week on Friday. McCurry was nominated after Marion County beat Bledsoe County 39-38 on August 24 to improve to 2-0.

The Warriors have since added another victory, Thursday's 33-12 decision over Whitwell, to start 3-0 for the first time since 1995.

"I hired Coach McCurry last year and he has surpassed our expectations," said Marion County High Principal Larry Ziegler. "He is really getting things turned around. Our participation and morale are up and the program has made a complete 180 (degree change)."

Through the Titans Foundation, team owner K.S. "Bud" Adams, Jr. will make a $1,000 contribution to the Marion County High School football program in McCurry's honor.

McCurry will also be the team's guest at the Titans season finale against Jacksonville on December 30th. The team will honor all 2012 Coach of the Week winners and announce the overall Coach of the Year at that time.
