McMinn County 33, Rhea County 7
ATHENS, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Kelvin Wells, Jr. and Dre Sanders each went over the century mark for the third straight game to fuel McMinn County's 33-7 win over Rhea County in the district opener for both teams.
Wells finished with 152 yards and two touchdowns, while Sanders broke loose for 148 yards and one score. Quarterback Corbin Powers also rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown for the Cherokees (3-0), who overcame 170 penalty yards.
Jacob York scored the lone tally for the Golden Eagles (1-2) on 21-yard run in the first quarter.
East Hamilton 49, Central 3
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Hunter Moore rushed for three touchdowns and Logan Jackson added another in East Hamilton's 49-3 drubbing of Chattanooga Central.
Jackson ripped off a 70-yard touchdown run on the Hurricanes' first play from scrimmage and finished with 169 yards on the ground despite just eleven carries.
All three of Moore's scores came on one-yard quarterback sneaks to give East Hamilton (2-1) a 28-3 lead at the half. He also added an eight-yard touchdown pass to Bailey Lenoir in the third quarter.
Tareq Faleh kicked a 36-yard field goal on Central's opening drive to help the Pounders avoid the shutout.
South Pittsburg 69, Lookout Valley 27
TIFTONIA, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Demetric "Little Man" Johnson tied the South Pittsburg single-game scoring record with six touchdowns in the Pirates' 69-27 rout of host Lookout Valley.
Johnson racked up 237 yards rushing in the first half alone, and finished with 309 yards on just 14 carries while sitting out the fourth quarter. The talented senior scored on runs of 7, 14, 73 and 74 in the first half before adding runs of 22 and 50 in the third quarter.
Jajuan Lankford and Corbin Hale also crossed the 100-yard mark, with Lankford reaching the end zone once. All of South Pittsburg's 619 yards of total offense came on the ground.
Vann Scribner and Tony Summerow each scored twice for the Yellow Jackets (2-1).
LFO 28, Gordon Lee 0
CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. (WRCB) -- Lakeview Fort-Oglethorpe used a stout defensive effort to overcome three turnovers and 18 penalties in a 28-0 season-opening win at Gordon Lee.
The Warriors (1-0) held the Trojans (0-1) to just 97 total yards, and preserved the shutout with two stops in their own red zone after botched punt snaps. LFO also scored a safety when a Gordon Lee punt snap sailed through the back of the end zone.
Jacob Gilbert scored from a yard out on the Warriors' opening drive, then quarterback Trey Silmon hit Jackson Wallin on a 37-yard scoring strike for a 13-0 lead. Wallin also added a 29-yard touchdown run for a 19-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Pooh Richardson closed out the scoring with a 74-yard burst in the fourth, finishing with 110 yards on eleven carries.
The two teams combined for 272 penalty yards on 33 flags.
