CALHOUN, Ga. (WRCB) -- For the second straight week, area football fans have voted for a North Georgia to be the Friday Night Football Game of the Week.
Channel 3 will hit the road down I-75 South for a marquee season-opening matchup between Class AAAA power Ridgeland and defending Class AA state champion Calhoun.
This will be the first meeting between the two since September of 2009, when the Yellow Jackets won at Ridgeland, 28-9.
Calhoun was the preseason No. 1 in Class AA this year after finishing a perfect 15-0 in 2011. The Jackets have several key players back, including South Alabama quarterback commit Taylor Lamb, but they also lost ten starters from last year's senior-laden defense.
Ridgeland boasts one of the nation's top recruits in safety Vonn Bell, who is ranked among the top ten at his position in most recruiting services. The Panthers are coming off a sixth-straight playoff appearance, in which they beat Monroe Area in the opening round before falling on the road at Peach County in round two.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Phil Reeves Stadium in Calhoun, with full live coverage to follow on Channel 3's award-winning Friday Night Football at 11:10 p.m. ET.
