SODDY DAISY, TN (WRCB) -- The Tennessee Valley Authority and other agencies will conduct a regularly scheduled emergency preparedness exercise for the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant Tuesday, August 28.
Almost 1,000 TVA, state employees and emergency responders will participate in the drill.
Residents of Hamilton and Bradley counties may see radiological monitoring teams or other emergency responders as part of the drill and may hear on-site and off-site sirens sound. The drill will also include a Joint Information Center at the TVA offices in Chattanooga.
This emergency drill is part of a long-term program required by the NRC on an annual basis at operating nuclear power plants.
Every two years, the Department of Homeland Security evaluates the readiness of state and local agencies. Following the graded exercise in October, the Department of Homeland Security will hold a public meeting to discuss the results.
