CHATTANOOGA, TN (Times Free Press) --.The United States helped propel Volkswagen brand sales 10.4 percent higher worldwide in the first seven months of the year, the German automaker reported today.

VW delivered over 3.26 million vehicles in the period, with sales in North America up 23.4 percent to 346,700, the company said in a news release.

Sales of 245,700 in the U.S. were 34.1 percent above the prior-year period, according to VW.

The company reported earlier that the Chattanooga-made Passat accounted for nearly a quarter of all sales in the U.S. in July.
